Reviews of McKinney Falls State Park

I have been to much better waterfalls, but this place was still a very scenic area. It had quite a variety of plant life, such as prickly pear cacti and wildflowers. I enjoyed the many attractions from the Upper Falls, to the Lower Falls, and to the big tree. The signage for the directions was very poor, in my opinion, and I did not have a map. It could be very slippery when I navigated alongside the rocks to get to the waterfalls. It would not be wise to wear flip-flops as they would be too flimsy, but I would say that maybe hiking sandals with a good grip would be the best shoes to wear. I had to take my sneakers off in order to keep them dry. There was plenty of parking, and this park was perhaps a twenty (20)-minute drive from Downtown Austin. It cost me six dollars ($6.00) to enter this park. There were bathrooms and grills to barbecue.

The bluebonnet meadow was amazing as were the other wildflowers currently blooming. Plenty of parking, restrooms were clean, signage easy to follow. Volunteer at gate was very friendly and welcoming. We didn’t have time to check out the falls or any trails but they appeared popular. If you want a safe, easy access place to photograph bluebelles, look no further.

Best state park yet. We’ve been on the road for two months, and this is by far our favorite campground! So much to do! Hiking the falls and swimming were great. Hubs liked the free fishing. Close to Austin and a short drive to San Antonio. The camp was clean and well maintained.

Nice State Park in Austin. Paid $5 each per person for a day pass, for a smooth entry please go to their website to reserve your time because they can only allow some number of cars into the park to avoid over crowding. There’s a day pass or a camping choice. We didn’t do a lot walking on the trails. The falls is the most popular and easy to get to. We enjoyed our time, we came on a perfect weather also.
